According to official data cycling casualties in UK in 2013 reached a total of 19,438. Most cyclists do not have the necessary equipment to alert vehicle drivers prior to their turns or stops.
Summer '15The streets in a modern city are intricate and navigation systems are often needed. However, navigation based on vision act as a distraction for the rider.
October '15Realizing the importance of bikes, we decided to offer a subtitute to visual navigation systems, and to the traditional hand signals for turn indication. It had to be lightweight, removable, waterproof and safe.
November '15Throughout the development of the Smart Helmet we were in constant communication with real bicycle commuters from across the Greater London Area. Few of the most popular requested features were:
• Bike Indepedence
• Extended battery life
• Route Overview
• Robustness and Compactness
We have developed a “Smart Bicycle Helmet”. This is a helmet equipped with vibration motors and lights. The vibration motors convert the navigation instructions into haptic feedback to inform the cyclist which direction to follow. The lights indicate forthcoming changes in direction and alert traffic of braking.
February '15There are several commercial products available that superficially offer similar technologies. However the Smart Helmet differs in key points:
•Haptic not visual navigation.
• Affordable : £55 compared to £100+
• Removable
• Up to 44 hours of operation
• Light Indicators
• Braking Lights
Our amazing engineering team is already working on Smart Helmet 2.0. Read more in the Future Work section.
