My flatmate came up with the initial idea of developing a device to attach to road vehicles capable of detecting potholes, after he had a near miss from encountering a pothole whilst driving late at night in Nigeria. Being from the same country I realised how relevant the idea he proposed was not only in our home country but also in every other country were potholes were common. Together we decided to propose our idea for the 2nd year project and surprisingly it got chosen!

This project greatly appealed to me because of it’s potential real world applications. It also had the potential to explore how software could govern the operations and utility of a product. The exploration into technologies that were a big step up from the ones we had toyed around with in the first year gave me insight into how we may apply the knowledge we already have at hand into a product such as HoleHere.

I have developed a very strong emotional attachment to the world of digital electronics. This is as a result of its very diverse applications in real world problems. The idea for this project was conceived as a result of my personal experience with the problem we are trying to solve-the nuisance that is potholes. I decided that there is a possibility that my new-found love could provide a solution to how potholes are handled, in both developed and developing countries. That was the birth of HOLE HERE. Working with my group mates has been an exciting experience of learning and teaching. A big thank you to Imperial College EEE for the opportunity to apply myself.

This project appealed to me as I have had multiple experiences where I have been driving and had to avoid a pothole. This product provided the perfect opportunity to improve driver experience and aid in avoiding potholes in the future. My personal experience of driving on roads with potholes made me especially interested in HoleHere.

After coming this far I have to say I really enjoyed working for this project. As a person who drives a car in Romania, a country with a reputation for having decimated roads after every heavy rain, I felt that joining a project with the intention of solving the pothole problem would be the right way to go. I hope that this project will be able to help road problems everywhere. .

Coming fro Kenya, potholes are a huge problem causing damage to a large number of vehicles. The fact that drivers are likely to encounter potholes on every street is annoying and a proposal to prevent/reduce the effect of this intrugued to work on this project.Working with this group has been great, and hopefully we will take 'HoleHere' further.

There is not a single day whenever I drive that i do not encounter potholes and they cannot always be avoided. Some times my car's wheels end up needing fixing which costs a lot but also, I have witnessed many accidents caused by them. I hope by working with this group will help solve this problem
