What is iCarry?

iCarry is a robot able to carry your baggage while following you. You simply put on a wearable device, which is picked up by the tracking unit of the robot. In this way, iCarry tracks your movements with minimal guidance, transitioning between indoor and outdoor environments, over a variety of terrain and weather conditions.

All you need to do is to put on the wearable device, turn on the robot, and enjoy the convenience!

Our motivation

The ability to carry bulky objects in our day-to-day lives is something many of us take for granted. A deeper look at accident statistics in the UK reveals a worrying trend. Approximately one-third of independent adults aged 65 or over experience a fall, many of which occur because of instability caused by carrying heavy items.

Target market

The product is primarily targeted at the elderly. Since mid-1974, the population of those aged 65 and now make up nearly 18% of the population, while the number of those aged 75 or over has increased by 89% and makes up 8% of the population. We strongly believe that technological innovations such as ours are needed to cope with the increase in the population of the elderly.

Our potential customers also include people with limited mobility who might otherwise have difficulty transporting heavy objects. We hope to provide a degree of independence to our customers, who right now might be heavily reliant on their caretakers for tasks such as grocery shopping.

Operating environment

iCarry works not only in indoor environments like airports, but also on streets. You can always take it for trips to the supermarket. As X is designed to be waterproof, raining would not affect its operation.

Similar products

iCarry took inspiration from several products already in the market. These products used technology to perform menial tasks that would otherwise have taken many man-hours to complete. They also were able to operate autonomously, with minimal human interference.

The iRobot Roomba uses a suite of sensors to navigate and clean the floor of a house. The device is able avoid obstacles such as stairs and walls. In addition, it can be programmed to remember its charging point and is able to automatically recharge itself as a result.

The Starship XYZ is an autonomous robot that is able to deliver packages to households, much like a mailman would. It is able to drive itself to its designated location, avoiding any obstacles along the way. In addition, it is monitored by human operators who can take over operation if necessary.
