The solution: eLumina
Efficient light intensity control of streetlamps to respond to the needs of road users.
We have designed eLumina such that it is an efficient structure for presence based monitoring and control of the street light system. The product is entirely compatible with both existing and suggested LED light fixtures.
eLumina offers lighting whenever there is a demand for it from cars, pedestratians or cyclists. The intensity of light is dependent on the need of people, thus we can save energy and invest it elsewhere. The lights are always on ‘dim’ state during off-peak hours, when there is no one in their vicinity. Upon detection of human presence, all the streetlights in the surrounding area ‘glow’ to a user defined brightness. The results we had from prototyping show a substantial reduction in energy consumption. The algorithm for our system is portrayed in the MATLAB simulation shown opposite.
The inbuilt monitoring hardware detects lamp failures, reduction in performance and other maintenance requirements, which leads to a reduction of the expensive maintance costs.
